I've been a writer practically since I was a fetus. As a child, I escaped my life by living in my head, creating characters and scenarios. As an adult I have continued to do so. Although I aspired to be a professional cartoonist, my interest turned to performing comedy.
In the ensuing years several novels of mine were published, I had a stage career, I was a drag king, I became disabled and was diagnosed bipolar. I was housebound by a minor stroke and during that time I wrote fan fiction for Swiss Army Man, Jeeves and Wooster, and other fixations.
In my younger years I read F. Scott Fitzgerald, Edith Wharton, Maugham, Sinclair Lewis, and many other 1920s and 30s writers. My goal became to write as simply and straightforwardly as possible. Later I expanded my reading horizons and fell in love with English writers including Stephen Fry, P. G. Wodehouse, and Martin Amis. My other major interest is film of the 1910s - 1960s, which started at age eleven. I have a truly terrifying knowledge of movie trivia and can recognize a character actor in a noir film at twenty paces.
